May 10, 8:12pm: Hello Graphic Comments

I've been actually reading through a lot of Blogs tonight and I noticed that many people actually write in things here, things around their lives and what their thinking. I have a hard time believing anyone would REALLY care what a stranger would have to say :-) But, I thought I would give it a try...So far it feels really weird :-)

I have a son in Brazil. He's serving a 2 year mission there for our church. He loves it there and I'm really happy he made the choice to go but I sure do miss him. My other son is in So. CA doing door-to-door sales. He likes to act like his family doesn't matter THAT much to him but calls constantly, just to visit. He and I get along much better when he's away. We appreciate each other more. He's been battling a drug problem. He's trying to clean up and I pray he does. It's really hard being a parent and watching your kids do things that you know will destroy their lives. I grew up in a family with a lot of substance abuse. When I joined my church, I hoped to break the cycle in the children I would have. But, you teach kids and they make their own choices. All that bad stuff is in the genes. Some people just have to learn on their own.

I've been married for almost 30 years. That really sounds like a lifetime. I've been thinking a lot lately about how lucky I am to be married to someone I still really like (and of course, love) after all these years. He's a great man and we're enjoying being "empty nesters."
